Government Priorities
It's no surprise people don't trust government any more.
Our Need: Government is meant to serve the people, “the many”, and must be held in check to prevent abuses of power in only serving “the money”.
Perspective
Government exists to support the common aims of the society: to maintain order, protect rights and freedoms of individuals, and provide public services so that people live together safely and fairly. Government should never be a club, rewriting the rules to suit the elite or those with more money, and ignoring their role. It’s no surprise that we don’t trust our government now that we have a system that gaslights us, telling us lies to our faces to make money and to maintain power.
Gerrymandering—redrawing districts and political boundaries to benefit incumbent politicians—is out of control. I don’t want to have a gerrymandered district where I got to pick the voters who are just like me. I want the voters to choose me because they’ve told me what they need and they can count on me to listen to them and work for that.
And what's with the state stepping in to tell municipalities—formally and legally recognized entities by definition—how they should be run? My opponent has a long history of stepping on local municipalities and advancing a MAGA agenda of taking over the system rather than responding to the people who live here. That's bass-ackwards—communities should never be serving political agendas or the power brokers, but the other way around!
It’s worth thinking about: who really is supporting a working government with less interference in your life? Who is listening to what you need and working for that?
